Homemade Pumpkin Purée Recipe

Making your own pumpkin purée is simple, delicious, and adds a fresh, seasonal touch to all your autumn recipes. Use it in soups, pies, muffins, or as a smooth base for cozy fall dishes — no canned pumpkin needed!

Yields: about 500 g smooth pumpkin purée

Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized cooking pumpkin (e.g. butternut, hokkaido, or sugar pumpkin)
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

1️⃣ Prepare the Pumpkin

  • Preheat the oven to 200 °C  / 392°F (fan 180 °C / 356 °F).
  • Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds and stringy flesh.
  • Remove the stem.

2️⃣ Roast

  • Place the halves cut side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Roast for 35–50 minutes, depending on size, until the flesh is soft and a knife slides in easily.

3️⃣ Blend into Purée

  • Scoop out the soft flesh and place it in a food processor or blender.
  • Add a pinch of salt if desired and blend until smooth.
